Avoid Smart People

Posted by:

You know, I’m smart sometimes.

Should I be proud of myself?

Fuck no!

I hate myself so much when I’m smart.

Why?

Because smart people always try to figure things out, and don’t get the job done.

How come?

I learned this from Art Williams, and specifically from his famous speech from 1987 (watch the video below).

Here’s what Art says in the end of his speech.

“…One time I thought you have to be smart to win in business.  I used to have these smart people that dress ...

Still Going Strong With Facebook Ads

Posted by:

Have you noticed that some online marketers keep on searching for the “silver bullet”, and don’t just stick to something that clearly makes money. These people typically haven’t yet succeeded with online advertising, or am I right, Internet?

I think this is pretty human. People just get bored and start looking for something new and interesting. It’s very difficult for most of us keep on doing something rather boring and mechanic even though it makes money. I have noticed that many ...

Patience and Risk

I follow most well-known gurus, and few underground big names in this industry. Almost all of them have reported that it took years for them to start making meaningful income online.

Night after night these guys kept tweaking their PPC-campaigns just to see they have lost another $100 or more by morning.

Just imagine how frustrating it can be. You go to work in the morning, and when you come home, you open your computer to start making money online. You spend ...

Pulling Pretty Cheap Traffic from Facebook

Pulling Pretty Cheap Traffic from Facebook

There’s a lot of cheap traffic waiting for you in Facebook.

You might have noticed that I use Facebook as my primary traffic source. You know why? Because it’s like Google back in 2003. Even though Facebook click prices have gone up there’s still plenty of cheap traffic. I’m currently pulling lots of traffic under $0.1 CPC with my business partner Janne.

This is a single ad reaching well over 140,000 20-60 years old men and women in English-speaking countries. ...

Can’t Believe This Happened Again!

Can’t Believe This Happened Again!

About a year ago I had a pretty embarassing. Now it happened again.

Last time I was travelling by train here in Finland. I had an early meeting in Tampere (city in southern Finland), so I decided to take a train from Helsinki. I sat down and opened my brand new laptop. I had purchased a new laptop just couple of days ago, and I wasn’t yet experienced with the settings of the laptop. I put on my headphones and started ...

Damn, Someone Unsubscribed – No Worry, It’s Good!

Every time I send email to one of my lists the same thing happens – Some people unsubscribe. May be they don’t like my information or style, who knows.

Should I be worried when people unsubscribe?

No, it’s actually good. It’s good that people who are NOT interested in my information opt out. This is why my list might not be the biggest one in the world (and for sure it is not!), but it contains subscribers who WANT my stuff. Why ...

Do You Discuss With Your List or Facebook Fans?

Hey, how many times you have received an email from “Company X” saying something like: “Come to our shop the day before Father’s day. We have GREAT discounts of books, shirts, razors, laptops, chainsaw’s, shotguns, beer, booze, whatever..”

How many times you receive email or Facebook status updates from companies that are actually not giving VALUE or DISCUSSING with YOU?

Don’t know about you, but I receive a lot. Guess what I do every time? I opt out if it’s possible.

I instruct ...

I’ve been talking about Facebook advertising quite a lot, and Facebook is my major source of traffic. I love Facebook advertising, no doubt about it. Anyhow, I’ve been looking for ...

My Facebook Ads Bidding Strategy

My Facebook Ads Bidding Strategy

Sometimes there are just too many advertisers bidding on the same keywords and the bids go sky high…

I joined a webinar on Facebook advertising couple of days ago. It was a good one. Lots of valuable information. One of the things John discussed was Facebook Ads bidding strategy. If you are not familiar with the term “bidding strategy” in this context, it is simply about bidding on Facebook ads. It’s about how much you bid when you launch ...

Kill ‘Em (almost) All

I’ve been running several Facebook ad campaigns lately, and I must say I’ve been a little too busy. I totally forgot one of the campaigns for few days. It’s a well targeted campaign, and I started with pretty high CPC in order to get quick data, but then I forgot to analyze the data…

Anyhow, today I checked the campaign and noticed that there’s only one good ad. What I mean by “good” is that only one has CTR above 0.1%. ...

Bad Facebook Ads 2

Bad Facebook Ads 2

Few days ago I wrote about the examples of bad Facebook ads. Here’s some more. I wonder what these advertisers are thinking…

I stumbled upon this Facebook ad last week (picture above).

This ad is in Finnish. Someone is advertising breast implant surgery pretty badly. First of all the title is BS. It says “Rintojen suurataminen“, which is wrong. It should be “Rintojen suurentaminen“, which directly translated would be “Breast enlargement”. So, it’s just a mistake, but a bad one.

Redefine Your Product(s)

We launched Fiercer Media only three months ago, but we have found customers more than we can serve. We’ve been lucky, because typically small businesses struggle their first couple of years. I’m a partner in another start-up too, and it has been a lot more difficult to get it profitable.

Anyhow, selling the affiliate deals of Fiercer Media and service products of the other company has been time consuming. We’ve spent way too much time creating unique deals with ...

Failure, Failure, Failure..

I’ve been talking about successful marketing campaigns to my email list for the past few weeks. I have shared certain figures like how much my sales has increased and how many opt-ins I get per week. By discussing about my results helps me to gain credibility and trust.

But there’s one thing I haven’t discussed much, and that’s failure. Actually my sequence of failures. I have failed so many times that I haven’t even counted…

Life is not always easy, and I’ve ...

You Are Flushing Money Down The Drain?

It’s already 11 pm here in Finland, and I should go to sleep, but I wanted to write this short post fist. Just few minutes ago I was finishing my keyword research when I noticed an interesting ad in Facebook. Someone is advertising software development services, and as a software engineer I wanted to check it out.

I clicked the ad and it redirected me to the website of ...

Bad Facebook Ads

I’ve seen bloggers posting examples of bad Facebook ads when advertisers rely on Google Translator. I want to share similar examples with you, but this time other way round. I want to show you why you should NOT rely on Google Translator, not even if foreign languages are not your biggest market. In this example I show you how an advertiser has translated ads from probably English to Finnish with bad results.

Couple of days ago I noticed a Facebook ad ...

Targeting Facebook Ads Is The Key

Targeting Facebook Ads Is The Key

Almost 50% of my customers who have tried Facebook advertising have told me that Facebook traffic is expensive. They claim that they “have to” pay click prices such as $1.30 or even $1.50. Most of them have spent over $5,000 in Facebook ads, but have received like only 3,000 clicks. Is that expensive? Oh, yes it is, but you should NOT pay that much.

When we drive traffic to the landing pages of our clients, we typically pay between $0.1-$0.25 per ...

The Meaning of Images in Facebook Ads

The Meaning of Images in Facebook Ads

yesterday I was invited to speak about Facebook advertising in TradeTracker’s (local affiliate-network) party, so I wanted to share couple of golden nuggets I’ve learned in the past few years.

Originally I had only 15-20 minutes time, but my time was extended to 45 minutes, so I had a change to answer few interesting questions. I didn’t know how familiar TradeTracker’s affiliates are with Facebook advertising, so I decided to keep my presentation on high level.

It turned out that about 50% ...
